Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Zoggle (“we”, “us”, “the site”) collects when you visit zoggle.io, how it is used, and what choices you have. Zoggle is an independent project operated by an individual, not a company.
1. The short version
Zoggle has no user accounts and asks for no personal information. Your game history, streak, and settings are stored in your own browser and are never transmitted to us. We cannot see your scores. The only data reaching our infrastructure is the ordinary technical data any website receives when your browser requests a page.
2. Information stored on your device
Zoggle uses your browser's local storage (not cookies) to save:
- Your guesses and scores for puzzles you have played
- Your current streak and number of days played
- Your light/dark theme preference
This data stays on the device that created it. It is not synced between your devices, is not sent to any server, and is not accessible to us. Clearing your browser's site data, or using private/incognito mode, erases it permanently — we cannot restore it.
3. Information collected automatically
Zoggle is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like all web hosts, Cloudflare processes limited technical information to deliver the site and defend it against attacks and abuse, including your IP address, browser type and version, device type, referring page, requested URLs, and timestamps. Cloudflare acts as our service provider and handles this data under its own privacy commitments; see the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
We may also use privacy-preserving aggregate analytics (such as Cloudflare Web Analytics) to see how many people visit and which pages are popular. These analytics do not use cookies, do not fingerprint visitors, and do not build profiles of individuals.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Zoggle currently sets no cookies of its own and uses no advertising or tracking cookies. Local storage (described in section 2) is a separate browser feature and is used only for the game data listed there. Cloudflare may set essential security cookies to protect the site from malicious traffic; these are strictly necessary for the site to function safely.
If advertising is introduced (section 5), the cookie situation will change and this policy will be updated before that happens.
5. Advertising (planned, not yet active)
Zoggle is free and currently carries no advertising. We may introduce advertising through Google AdSense in the future to cover operating costs. If and when we do:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies at aboutads.info.
- Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and other regions requiring consent will be presented with a consent notice before any non-essential cookies are set, and may withdraw consent at any time.
- This policy will be updated with specifics, and the “last updated” date changed, before advertising goes live.
6. Email you send us
If you contact us at hello@zoggle.io — with a correction, a question suggestion, or anything else — we receive your email address and whatever you write. That message is forwarded to a personal inbox and kept only as long as needed to respond and, for accepted question suggestions, to credit you. We do not add you to any mailing list; Zoggle sends no newsletters or marketing email.
7. How information is used
We use the limited information described above only to: operate and deliver the site; keep it secure and available; understand aggregate traffic patterns so we can improve the game; and respond to messages you send us. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes, and we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
8. Data retention
Game data on your device persists until you clear it. Server and security logs held by our hosting provider are retained on their standard schedule (typically a short rolling window measured in days). Emails are retained until they are no longer needed for correspondence.
9. Your rights
Because we hold almost no personal data — no accounts, no profiles, no contact database — most access and deletion requests can be satisfied by you directly: clearing your browser data removes everything Zoggle stored about your play.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to access, correct, delete, or port personal information, to opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither), and to be free from discrimination for exercising these rights. To make a request, email hello@zoggle.io and we will respond within the timeframe the applicable law requires. Note that we may be unable to identify data as “yours” precisely because we collect so little.
Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are: legitimate interests (operating a secure, functioning website and understanding aggregate usage) and, for any future advertising cookies, your consent.
10. Children's privacy
Zoggle is a general-audience trivia game and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the site provides no mechanism for anyone to submit personal information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International visitors
Zoggle is operated from the United States and served from a global content delivery network. If you access the site from outside the United States, the technical data described in section 3 may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate, which may have different data protection laws than your own.
12. Security
The site is served exclusively over HTTPS and is a static website with no database of user information, which removes most categories of data-breach risk by design. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but there is very little here to lose.
13. Third-party links
Puzzle answers cite external sources, and some pages link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites; their own policies govern your visits to them.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes — particularly the introduction of advertising — will be reflected here with a revised “last updated” date before they take effect. Continued use of the site after a change indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
